ok…im heading to europe feb. 28-march 8 or so…and im in a pickle…i really need to know the best way to travel around europe…im only gonna be in europe for about a week and a half…and i wanna see as much as possible…however i know time and money constraints will not permit me to do so..im staying in liverpool…and i wanna go to ireland..germany…and france…any ideas on the cheapest travel methods????
Hi denverrb! That’s very cool that you’re going on a trip to Europe. My first question is, you say “until March 8 or so…” — are your dates flexible? Have you bought your tickets yet? Because what would make the most sense would be to fly into the UK and fly out of either Dublin, Paris or Frankfurt/Munich in order to make the best use of your time.
My second question is, Liverpool? Do you know someone there? No disrespect to the home of the Beatles but it’s not where people usually start their UK adventures.
So, assuming you’re departing the US on the 27th of Feb and have all of the days 28 Feb – 08 Mar to travel, that’s ten days to travel in four countries. It’s not impossible but it might be a bit rushed. What I might recommend is to cut out Germany, and then you could spend about three days in each country. I would also recommend limiting your time in each country to one city, so you can make the most of it.
Assuming your UK travels will be in and around Liverpool, you could fly down to London and then take the Eurostar over to Paris. STA Travel sells very cheap Eurostar tickets to students and often we have cheap British Midland student-rate airfares for flights within the UK, and probably a cheap flight fomr Paris to Dublin as well (I’m writing this from home so I can’t look it up at the moment).
Have you already bought your international flights? If not, you’re in luck—definitely give us a call and we can get you a good flight into the UK and out of Ireland.
If you have more time, then it might be worth it to add on Germany. You could get the Eurail pass to include France, Ireland and Germany (the UK is not one of the countries included in the Eurail passes).
Definitely get in touch if you want to figure out your best options— 617-576-4623 or cam@statravel.com.
Cheers! — Francesca
