When I travel, I like to go off the beaten path and find things to do that are “non-touristy”. Since Costa Rica is a tourist paradise, what is your favorite non-tourist thing to do in Costa Rica?
I have not been to Costa Rica yet, but I am hoping to get there sometime in the next year. There is just so much to do there, that it is difficult to choose. Costa Rica may be a touristy place, but it is so action packed that it could hardly be labled as a “too touristy”. I am looking at taking a trip with GAP Adventures. They are one of STA Travels prefered tour companies in Central and South America. They offer more action packed, off the beaten track kinds of options than you can think of. They have short stays at a jungle lodge that takes you on a white water rafting trip to get back to San Jose, they have volunteer projects that work with the Sea Turtles in Tortugero, week long surfing lessons, or take a trip that has you hiking, biking, rafting and even riding horseback as you make you way around the cloud forest and volcanoes. They offer something for everyone.
There is a great company called Albee Adventures which we work with. They specialize in travel in Costa Rica. They pretty much tailor make every trip taking into consideration all your interests and needs. They arrange accomodations (hotels in different price ranges), transportation (buses/flights) and also activities such as surfing classes, zip lining throuhg the forest, horseback riding, trecks in national parks and much more.
