I have another question: if any of you have backpacked through Europe, I’m looking for advice on hostels. I might be traveling around by myself very soon, so if you’ve stayed in inexpensive, comfortable, safe and social places I’d love to hear about them. Here is where I’m considering visiting:
-Brussels
-Munich
-Berlin
-Paris
-London
-Vienna
-Tyrol
-Any towns in Switzerland
-Dubruvnik
-Stockholm
-Denmark?
If you have info on any of those cities I’d love to hear about it. Hopefully I can make a list before I leave. I just bought my Eurail Pass so I’m super excited.
Also, if anyone wants to travel around any of these places in the next month or two let me know!
Hey!! Backpacking Europe is one of the best experiences ever and hostels are a no better place to meet people… Your list looks awesome…I would for sure consider adding Prague, Czech Republic, Barcelona or Granada Spain!! All amazing places!!!
I have a recommendation for a hostel in Vienna, it’s called Hostel Ruthensteiner! Great place! Fun staff, very cool set up..they have a huge lounge where you can meet a ton of people!! When I was there we met 4 people who just decided to ditch their travel route and come with my friends and I to Prague and we had the most amazing time…But I would leave out some of the cities in Eastern Europe…they are kinda off the beaten trail, quite cheap and off just a different experience then the West!! When are you heading out?? I am living near Berlin, I don’t know if you want someone to show your around the city….but hey happy travels!!!!
Just got my Eurail Pass in the mail and bought my plane tick… $220 one way Philly to London nonstop, awesome. I’ll def check out that hostel in Vienna. I’ve already been all over Greece, Italy, and to Istanbul, Amsterdam, Prague and Barcelona so for now I’m looking beyond those places. Maybe you can show me around Berlin a bit…I might be there in two weeks who knows. Hmm do hostels provide towels? And can I do okay traveling around Europe with a duffel kind of bag that goes around one arm (not a huge backpack)?
Hey there! I agree with Asins! Your trip looks amazing! You are hitting some really awesome towns and I think you’ll have a blast. In London and Berlin I would suggest the Generator hostels if you like a party atomsphere. They each have a bar and great central locations. In London if you’re looking for something a bit more chill I recommend the ST. Christopher’s Village. It’s a cool cluster of hostels and restaurants and even has a jacuzzi! There is actually a St. Christopher’s in Paris too and it’s right near Gare du Nord which would help transportation wise. I have also visited Belgium, Denmark, and Sweden. I did not stay in the major cities while there but these are absolutely amazingly beautiful countries. The people are very hospitable and I’m sure you’ll have a blast!
Lastly, about the towels at hostels. Most hostels will have towels from rent while there, but for the most places they are not free. I would suggest stopping by an outdoor store and picking up a camping towel. They usually run around $20 and these are quick dry towels that fold up very small. I always use one when I’m staying at hostels.
Good luck and have a fantastic trip!
