Question

on 3/26/08, shesinrome asked about Thailand:

Safety in Thailand? Well, I did it!! I booked my trip to Thailand! 18 days, North and South with Intrepid!! But I suddenly have some safety fears after reading in the newspaper about growing rates of terrorism and violence. Has anyone been to Thailand recently? Anything to really be worried about?

Went to Thailand last year, no drama.
Myanmar was a little dicey not too long ago during the bloodless coup, but otherwise, sunshine and lollipops.

My dad actually lives in Chiang Mai, has been there for the last 15 years and has seen it all.

If you have any super in depth questions that need answering, I’ll fire em on over to him. He’s there at the mo and always eager to answer questions.

Where are you headed?

That’s so cool that you’re going on an Intrepid, you’re going to love it! They are such a great, fun company.

I’m sure you’ve gotten your travel insurance already as it’s required by Intrepid, so that will cover you should it become so dangerous that your trip is cancelled. However!!! I really don’t think this is going to happen. You are not going to go anywhere in Thailand where the problems are. Intrepid is a very trustworthy company with a long history, and should a destination on your route become dangerous, they would alter the route.

I sent a couple on their honeymoon to Thailand last year during some terrorism issues on the border with Malaysia. They were never bothered and had a brilliant time. I know you will also have a wonderful time.

Cheers!
