I need to find something and somewhere to go this summer. Ideally it would be in an English or French speaking country. Im up for work, volunteer, or whatever.

Hi Claireanne,

I’m sorry that your friends bailed, but happy to hear your still up for traveling! There are so many options for you-it just depends on how long you’ d like to travel for. You could volunteer in Africa with children or lions, Costa Rica with children or turtles, builds home in Vietnam-the choices are endless. If you would rather have a summer of just travel-you can take a bus all over Europe. There are trips that range from 11-36 days where you stay in either hotels, hostels or camp grounds. If buses aren’t your style there’s always the Eurail.

Hi Claire,

I have done a work abroad in New Zealand. I spent a year there traveling and working and it was AMAZING! The great thing about working is that you can make money while you travel. I haven’t volunteered officially -I’ve done plenty of volunteer when I travel-but never with a program. The bonus with a volunteer program is that your still on holiday-but your rewards are so much different than just sightseeing. It changes your life as well as those your help . Of course traveling anywhere changes your life :)

Alex

Hi Claire,

Travel solo! There are so many trips you can take solo and meet people from all around the world. I traveled to Costa Rica solo and studied Spanish with students from all across the world. If I hadn’t gone alone, I would have never met the amazing people I met. Let me know if you want the details of my trip.

If you’re interested in outdoor adventures/hiking trips, you should so a search here and see what looks of interest. All the trips have groups of young people from all over, and it’s safe and organized to go solo.

Hey Claire, have you looked into some of the tours offered at STA? I recommend Contiki, and right now I know they have a great deal on their most popular trip, European Discovery. It basically hits all the highlights of Western Europe. Contiki works really well with groups too, offering more savings and easy packages – maybe you can still convince your friends to go with you! I went last summer and it was sooo much fun! Msg me if you want more info! I wrote a blog for my friends and family, so if you wanna check it out:
