I am looking for a new place to go in September. My preference is for a European country, because it would be closer for me. I’m looking for a more unique trip; I have been to Rome, England, Germany, and Portugal, so I am looking for opinions on where people have been and what they have seen that they would recommend. I would most likely be going alone, and would need to not spend a lot of money. Any suggestions are appreciated!
I’d hit Andalucia. Not sure where you’re coming from, but clickair and easyjet are just a couple of airlines that have good prices into Seville and Malaga. You could also check Jerez de la Frontera airport. Once you’re there, the buses are the cheapest way to get around. It can be a little difficult finding their schedules online, so your best bet is to just go the bus station and ask around. Oh, and try not to drink much before you get on the bus- most don’t have bathrooms and don’t stop very often.
Once you’re there, Seville is magic- just a great city to while away a few days eating tapas and listening to flamenco music. Granada is a little more low key, but very beautiful and the Alhambra is an absolute must (go with an empty memory card). Tarifa is good if you want to try kite surfing. Ronda is a stunning little town perced on the edge of deeeep gorges. Cadiz is good for laying on the beach and getting some nighttime action.
Since you’re going alone, stay in a hostel instead of a hostal. It’s really easy to meet people. Spain seems to put everyone in a good mood, so they’re super friendly.
Have fun and try not to OD on jamon!
Belgium might be a bit too similar to france and germany for you, but Brugge is the cutest, most friendly and tasty little town. It’s walled in and has canals, chocolate shops, classic architecture and bars with more than 100 kinds of beer. I loved it there.
I think you should start thinking about Eastern Europe. It would be totally different view of Europe for you. There are some amazing tours that would give you a fabulous view of the region. Say for example, into Prauge and out of Istanbul with stops in Budapest, Bucharest, and even Transylvania.
I’d jump on the Greece bandwagon and visit Mykonos Island. It is AWESOME. September would be good because the tourists are leaving and you can get to know the locals more. If you need a place to stay, I can hook you up with great accomidations!!
