I’m new to the idea of spring break and I don’t want to spend a mint but want to have a good experience are there any particular destinations to avoid? My spring break is in march so I’m thinking warm weather if I can.

There are tons of options for spring break—it really depends on what you want to do—do you want a destination known for its party scene, or do you plan to mostly lounge on the beach or some combo of the two? Some destinations that are considered bigger party destinations are Cancun, Acapulco and Negril, Jamaica. Those can be very touristy and super-crowded, so if you are looking for something with less of a party atmosphere, but still some nightlife and want to keep the price relatively low, try Barbados. Costa Rica is also a great option as there are fantastic beaches, but won’t be nearly as touristy as the more typical spring break destinations. Please feel free to email us for more suggestions and prices. We usually start booking spring breaks as early as October, so it’s great that you are thinking of this now. email us at gwu@statravel.com

Hi kmannone! That’s cool that you want to go ahead and do Spring Break—it’s something I wish I’d done when I was an undergrad. I guess my first question to you is: what is a “good experience” as you are imagining it? Do you want to just relax? Party like crazy? Volunteer? There are a million ways to make those ten days a memorable experience—tell us what you like to do and we can work something up. The Carribbean is thought of as a party destination, but there are places where you can just go and relax as well. Central America is a great spot for warm and beautiful but a bit off the beaten path. Portugal would be “warm” (average of about 56 degrees in Lisbon) relative to Boston—where I’m from—in March, but I don’t know if that would be warm for you as well.

Hey Kmannone! The Spring Break experience is a must! There’s an endless amount of options for your break. It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for the ‘typical’ party experience I would recommned The Riviera Maya in Mexico. You can party all night, lie on the beach all day, and visit the near by Mayan Ruins in Tulum so you can come home and tell your parents you did something cultural. I went when I was in college, and had a great time!

The other two spring breaks I took were to Belize and Costa Rica the following two years, and I would highly recommend Latin America as an option. Costa Rica is still fairly inexpensive and has everything you would want. Beautiful beaches … active volcanoes … cloud forests … fun night life … lots of young people … plenty of adventure actvities like cliff jumping, zip lining and surfing … Give your nearest STA office a call and have them tell you more about Costa Rica. Companies like Tucan Travel and Gap have incredible tours. Have fun and let us know what you decide on!!!
