I’m studying in London for a semester and I’ve heard a lot of different things about bus/train travel. Should I purchase a pass of some sort for these kinds of things or just pay as I go? I feel like a pass would be financially efficient but I’m not sure if they’re available.
I meant the UK, not Ecuador. Not sure how that happened! :)
You should definitly get a pass before you go…you can’t buy them once you get over there..point to point can be very expensive if you plan to even go on e more than 2 trips.. plus the exchange rate sux right now. I would recommend a britrail flexi pass…you can check out prices and stuff on STA’s website… Or call the branch that’s closest t to you…they would be able to set you up with the right pass for your needs! Plus.. you can get a great deal on a Eurostar ticket to take you to Paris or Brussels for a weekend while your over there!
Definitely get a transport pass! The best one out there is the Oyster card, which you can use on any transportation + your cell phone I believe. It’s definitely the way to go. Dealing with cash on the buses is no fun!

Get an Oyster Card (it’s a blue card)...you can get a student discount on it, and it works like a debit card for the tube and the train. Very useful!
Hi kakins! I had a Britrail pass when I did a semester at Oxford and it was fantastic—I went somewhere every weekend. You don’t need reservations so you can just validate it and go. However it’s only valid for two months—how long will you be in the UK? It won’t be valid to use on the London Underground, but you should definitely get an Oyster card when you get there.
Feel free to send me a message—I’m one of STA’s UK experts. Or send me an email: cam@statravel.com.
Cheers!
