Traveling by rail is definitely the easiest way to get around. Only some of the west of Ireland is covered by the rail network, so it will all depend on where you are. Renting a car is another easy way to get around, but beware of stick shifts and narrow country roads! The route between Galway and Dublin is a quick 3 hour journey by train, but the schedules can be difficult to read.
