I am planning a trip to Africa next June / July. Does anyone have any tips on what not to miss. I am planning a summit of Kilamanjaro and a safari….any must not misses would be greatly appreciated. Also, any recommended tour companies.
First of all, you should stop by one of our branches and look at the awsome tours that STA Travel has in Africa. Secondly, it is a huge continent, so, you might want to work on prioritizing the kinds of activities that you want to do. Since, it sounds like you are an active person who is looking for adventure, there is tons to do. In East Africa, there are of course the wildlife safaries, the cultural visits to the Masai Mara, and hiking Kilamanjaro. But, there are other things to do there. For example, you can go relax on the beach in Zanzibar, explore the natural habitat of Chimpanzees, and go treking to see gorillas in the wild!!! If you start heading further South, you get into river rafting, boating across spectacular deltas, making your way through unique deserts, or just chilling in Malawi. If you are going to South Africa, dont miss out on Victoria Falls or Kruger National Park.
Going to a branch is always a good idea. Do you know where the nearest one is?
Grasshopper,
If you have time, you may also be able to take on a volunteer project. We work with i-to-i, a fabulous company that offers meaningful travel. They have a variety of volunteer oppurtunities all over Africa. The projects range from teaching english to community development to teaching sports to animal conservation to ecosensitive meaniful tours.
Most have a two week minimum, but maybe you can link it after your safaris. Imagine taking a two week safari and seeing lions hunt in the wild, and then working in the Lion Park helping to feed and monitor baby white lions that are facing extinction! Or after touring through villages and cities, working with children who live there and teaching them how to play soccer.
Just contact me if you would like any more information. I can send you a brochure and answer your questions.
Good Luck!
