Question

on 8/17/07, Kaleena asked about Ireland:

I am heading to Ireland at the end of September. I’m taking a 6 day guided trip through Southern and Western Ireland but I have two full days on either side of the trip to do whatever I want in Dublin. Beyond visiting the Guiness Brewery does anybody have any must see places in Dublin?

Well… first off, good choice on your top pick. The pint they give you at the factory remains solidy in my list of top-5 beers of all time. Temple Bar is a must-see at night. There’s actually a cheesy-but-terrific nightly musical pub crawl. It’s uber-touristy, but I had fun doing it. If you get a chance to see the crew teams row on the river, then do that, too.

Kaleena! Your going to such a great time. Ireland is beautiful and has some of the most friendly and good looking people you’ll ever meet. You can always check out the Book of Kells at Trinity College.

Kaleena, that’s so cool. Personally, I love me some hop-on, hop-off bus! We did it when we visited DD in Dublin. It was New Year’s day and we were all wicked hungover—it was a great way to get around without walking. Good times!

Strolling along O’Connell St and down Grafton is very enjoyable—it’s just so charming and bustling. Cross over the lovely ha’penny bridge over to Temple Bar.

And drink beer. ;)

Hey Kaleena, don’t miss out on Kilarney, Dingle, The Ring of Kerry – take in some of the cute pottery shops around the small towns there, and if you can swing it – take a trip over to the Aran Islands. In Dublin, window shopping on Grafton Street followed by lunch on St. Stephen’s Green is my favorite. The best way to see Dublin is by taking on of the many hop on hop off tours, as a lot of the major sights are a little way out of the city, there’s also a “Dublin Pass” that’s really great value and well worth it! Have a great time!

Sounds like you have some good plans! Since you seem interested in drinking…may I suggest a good ole’ pub crawl? Here are the details of the Traditional Pub Crawl in Dublin. You will get a discount with your ISIC card too! Check it out:

An experience not to be missed, to get to know the heart of Dublin’s night life.
The Musical Pub Crawl is led by two professional musicians who perform tunes
and songs while telling the story of Irish Music. The tour visits a range of famous pubs in the centre of Dublin. The pubs provide a private room for the tour, so join the tour and get merry! It departs daily at 10:30pm.

Entrance to the followings Pubs: Gogarty’s, Ha’penny Bridge Inn, Palace Bar, Isoldes Tower, O’Reillys and Legal Eagle.

Let me know if you would like to book a night on the crawl!
