This was the liveliest park we encountered on our journey throughout Europe, full of the aged folk of the city and enjoying a brisk Friday in autumn.
A resident of Lucerne, an old lady who has lived in the city her entire life, led us to this monument. Built into the side of the mountain, it apparently inspired Mark Twain—he called it “the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world”. It was built to commemorate the deaths of all the Swiss soliders killed during the French revolution
We didn’t mean to go here, but we walked around, went to church, learned about the UN. You know.
This country has the highest yearly earnings per capita. That’s about all I knew before going there.
