Friends

Fellow travel lover Laura and I met last summer in Barcelona, a city which we knew nothing about but were eager to explore together. Our shared curious sense of adventure made us fast friends and we quickly became each other’s go-to travel buddies. One night, a broken metro line and taxi ride gone horribly wrong found us near Park Guell, miles from our destination across the city that evening. We took out our respective maps and tried desperately to piece together a route to get us where we needed to go. We trudged on through Barcelona’s darkened streets, half-laughing, half-terrified, and completely lost. By this point we were two hours late for dinner at a friend’s flat. As I tried to flag down another cab and read street signs, Laura suddenly grabbed my arm and said, “Heidi, LOOK.” To my right I saw Sagrada Familia in the distance, lit up and looking more breathtaking than ever from a hidden angle we had never seen during the day. It was so beautiful I started to tear up. It’s a moment I’ll never forget. That’s what’s great about traveling with Laura; even in sticky situations, as long as we’re around each other we manage to have a fantastic time, make each other laugh, stay upbeat, and stumble upon amazing sights and situations. It’s part of why I can call her one of my best friends for life, and I’m so glad that we had the chance to discover Barcelona with each other. From dancing, to festival-going, to spending all night talking on the beach, to tasting delicious local food and wine, we’re up for anything and everything that immerses us in different cultures and experiences. Miles upon miles separate us at the moment, but we’re hoping for the opportunity to be reunited and continue our adventures together!
