Friends

Tiffany is like my long lost sister. We met in college on the east coast after growing up half an hour away from each other in California and have been inseparable ever since. The escapades we’ve had in the last 5 years would never have happened with anyone else. Deciding not to go home for Thanksgiving last year, we took the $15 Chinatown bus to New York City and stayed at a hostel instead. Wanting to soak up all the Big Apple had to offer, we got cheap tickets for an off Broadway show, and not knowing exactly what to do with ourselves afterwards decided to check out the Empire State Building. After taking a dozen dorkey pictures we were going to take the Metro back to the area where we were staying, but of course discovered all the stops were closed or the ticket machines were broken. We had to trek the 20 or so blocks back and were struggling to walk in heels (we are usually the jeans and sneakers types). After a fateful stop at Walgreen’s to get gel pads for our feet and the discovery of a back room with chairs and an electric foot massager (I know, kind of gross and sketchy but so worth it at the time) we decided we needed a break. Instead of going to an overpriced, touristy restaurant we found a dark bar full of locals and a middle-aged cover band. We were the youngest people there by a generation, but after some fries and a few beers we were out on the dance floor with everyone else, doing the electric slide with the best of them. When Tiffany and I are together, the adventures seem to find us. It is always fun to check out the “major sites” but we have found the real memories are made off the beaten path in some of the most unexpected circumstances. Exploring new places and different cultures is so appealing to both of us that we are going to ditch our jobs and travel together for a year, this time to far away places. But no matter where we are, when we are together it is always an adventure.
