My photo album
My best friend Rick and I have only taken a couple of trips together, but we have a blast everywhere we go, even if sometimes we have the worst of luck or don’t quite end up where we’re supposed to be. A week ago, we were skiing in Colorado, and we managed to get so absorbed in a conversation that we forgot to raise the safety bar to get off of a ski lift. The lift started straight back down again, but we managed to break a ski pole in the effort to disembark. Last summer, in England, we took a short weekend trip up to York. We were planning on visiting the Minster and the railway museum and enjoying a nice stay there. However, along the way we stopped in Durham, and had a great time visiting the town and cathedral. Once we arrived in York, we heard about the nearby North York Moors Railway, which runs steam trains (which were even featured in several films, including the Harry Potter series). We discussed it and decided that would be much more entertaining than spending the day in a museum reading about old steam trains. So, we spent the entire day getting to this steam railway in the middle of nowhere, boarded the Hogwart’s express, and visited several charming English towns. The greatest part about the entire day was that we did not see another tourist, not to mention we saw a rare, remote portion of the country that most tourists never visit. The next day, we took advantage of a rare opportunity to go inside the inner circle of Stonehenge. Ironically, on the return trip from Stonehenge, we passed through the small town of Lacock, which, incidentally, is where many of the classroom scenes from the Harry Potter movies were filmed. I think it takes a very unique person to simply travel and have strange and adventurous things happen to them. It is uncanny how that can happen to two people. The great part is, we both simply go with the flow and enjoy every minute of unpredictable fun that finds us.
