Friends

Adventure seeks to define what Lauren and I experienced while partaking in what our parents, our university’s and we knew would be a life changing experience in the land down under.

On the flight I suddenly realized me a sorority girl with all the same friends from elementary school was going to land on Australian soil without knowing a soul. This startled me however I was determined to meet a friend to refill all the adventure with the girls at home I’d be missing out on. Once I arrived to the campus on that balmy February day I realized I was going to be the only one in my dormitory for a ten days until the native Aussie’s made their way to uni and that I needed to go out and find linens and decorations for my room.

Exhausted from the trip I managed to fall asleep early only to wake up to yet another 40+ degree day but was destine to get my room put together. I walk outside to an awkward scene of new faces and people trying to determine who they would share this exciting adventure with for the next 6 months. That is when I meet southerner Lauren. We instantly bonded during our two-hour trip to Kmart. We shopped around grabbed essentials for six months in a new country and then some. Without thinking of the luxury of automobiles we shopped and shopped. Outside we had to give up our trolley and walk a kilometer to the tram and another two kilometers back to our rooms. Lauren and I laughed at our stupidity however managed to make it back with only one bag breaking. This would be the first bonding experience for Lauren and me. We hurried back in to set up our rooms—we lived in rooms in building next to each other, in all reality we both made those important phone calls back home to our folks, “I made a friend.”

That day is where the true adventure started. We laughed, cried, and shared so many memories in what seemed like just a short time we were close friends. However no matter to what length I tell my story or share my pictures nothing compares to the adventure and experience Lauren and Australia had on my life.
