We actually went to Germany twice on our journey. The first time consisted of a Rhine River Cruise and spending the night in Heidelberg- the night we all really knew that we had bonded, these were going to be some life long friends…
We re-entered Ger
This was an abandoned castle near Heidelberg that we got to explore until the rain came pouring down. It was really beautiful- even the aspects of it that are starting to crumble…
It was one of our two hour stops to get us out of the bus- so I had a few goals:
see how they make cuckoo clocks
try black forest cake
and of course go for a quick hike!
We found these at the Black Forest Market, where you could watch the artists working on some…
After our dinner we went to one of the biggest bier gartens in the world- the Hofbrauhaus, don’t come here hungry, they pretty much only sell bier and pretzels. The atmosphere with the Oompa bands provided for another fun German evening…
We had about two hours to venture the city after arrival and before the organized dinner. Erin and I wanted to really experience the city- while others wanted some German bier. Erin and I ventured and found some local art and watched a few street performers.
As we reconviened as a group I realized my roommate was nowhere to be found- Mary, who has absolutely no sense of direction, was lost in Munich alone. I ran back to Marienplatz- still no Mary. I ran a little down each of the connecting streets while checking back at the square at each intersection, and nothing. At this point I was starting to panic. Finally, as I enter the square for one final time- there is a tiny girl in a blue dress crying right in front of the fountain- she is here and alive.
After about fifteen minutes of fear and panic on both of our ends- I walked her to the restaurant where she was visibly shaken and upset as you might be able to tell in several of these photos- unless that is she let the bier drown her anger, fear and panic.
