These are photos from the Fall 2007 Voyage of Semester at Sea.
I met this little girl just outside the Taj Mahal. She wandered a few feet away from her family, and I politely asked her mother if I could take a few photos, to which she kindly obliged.
I was introduced to this man through a friend who took some friends and I into the underbelly of the Khan-al-Khalili Bazaar in Cairo. The man was busily making lanterns, and smoking a cigarette.
This is a motorbike that I found near the Ancient Pyramids of Giza. I was really fascinated by the Arabic numbers on the license plate, and the shot came out beautifully.
This was our waitress in a small restaurant tucked away in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She was all smiles and tried to joke with us because we talked in English.
This cat was prowling around between the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. He was quite content to ask us for affection.
I took this in Beijing right in front of the Forbidden City. The color red caught my attention and I knew it would be a great memory.
This is a picture from the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The remnants of devastation are real an disturbing. Be human. Think.
I took this picture of 30 fantastic people standing in front of our chateau which we rented in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Travel, friends. It’s the only way to truly live. (Ignore how trite the statement is, and honestly live it up.)
This is the gate that stands in front of Kiyomizudera in Kyoto. It’s quite a breathtaking sight in person.
This is the famous site in Asakusa, Tokyo. The gate is known as Kaminarimon and people travel from all over the world to snap photos. Fortunately I was there after the sun went down and got some great shots.
These are the handicraft statues for sale at the market in Ho Chi Minh City. Be sure to haggle if you want a good price.
This little Japanese girl is ecstatic to see the giant clock play Disney’s famous, “It’s a Small World” song. She’s evidently full of glee, as was I in snapping this photograph.
This is a view from the Apex (the top) floor of Central Plaza building in Hong Kong.
Semester at Sea students say good-bye to the first port of call: Honolulu. Feet on the railing and glistening lights adorn the view.
En route to visiting an orphanage in Chennai, India, we stumbled upon a group of Catholic school girls from North India. They were pleased to make our acquaintance. Let me just say the feelings were mutual.
These are my trusted sunglasses purchased in Ho Chi Minh City for three American dollars. Underneath is my equally trusted journal from India. Both of these wonderful items joined me under the Cairo sun where this photo happens to have been taken.
In Arabic, there are no “P” sounds. Therefore, this drink is referred to by all as “Bebsi.” Roll with it.
This is a photo that I didn’t actually take… because I’m in it. It was taken in the Khan-al-Khalili bazaar in Cairo, Egypt.
This is the front of the Forbidden City… word on the street is that there used to be a Starbucks inside, but people protested and eventually had it shut down. Alas, so much for the Forbidden Starbucks.
This is a group of intrepid university students traveling through the modern Tokyo transit system. Currently they are at Ueno Station for those who can read Japanese.
