07.10.08: I took a day off work to bring my sisters out shopping & sight-seeing around Shanghai, and we came across this busy little street, bustling with activities in mid-afternoon!!
Who said that curiosity always kills the cat?
Alas, we arrived at the last heaven on Earth…... oh nvm, it’s just an amazing stretch of road that features some of the best street snacks in Shanghai!
I have in my hands a freshly blended papaya milkshake… yumm!!
My sister Eva on the other hands, have one of the most popular drink in China/Taiwan/Hong Kong…..... drum roll IT’S BUBBLE MILK TEA!!
Would you look at that line?!
The store basically sells grilled meat, seafood and veggies on a stick, kinda like Kebobs? The food actually tastes alright.. the funny thing in most Asian countries is that people tend to think long line = really good food, so the more people are in line, the better the food should be.
It’s really a hoax with this store… we were deceived =P
You can see the menu behind me, for example.. you will get 6 sticks of veal/squid/beef tendons/shrimps/chicken wings/octopus for 10RMB = USD$1.30, .
Street snacks are the BOMB!
Very popular fried buns store – now now, this food is REALLY GOOD. Basically buns filled with pork & spring onions, placed in large stone frying pans. The bottom of the bun will be uber crispy while the rest of the bun is soft & fluffy… mmmmmmm
Eva finishing the last of our buns!!
Did I mention how much the bus are? It costs 1RMBper bun…so with USD$1, you can get SEVEN buns. Now that’s a quality meal!
I have no idea what this is, but there was a line too… I believe its a local Shanghainese dish, basically a combo of spicy meat stew, noodle, vegetables and more.
Right across the road from our shady snack street, we found some modern shopping malls, it’s a rather interesting contradiction.
A rather strange, colonial European style building at the end of the street…..
