My travel buddy, is my sister Catherine. We are a year and five days apart, so we’re practically twins. This past fall, Catherine went off to college for the first time, and I went to study in Italy for the semester. My abroad program was very short, and it ended right before Thanksgiving. So, I traveled by myself from Rome to Naples. I needed to get used to the idea of being independent for the next 3 weeks, until my flight home. After a long day of touring around Pompeii, I thought I would be eating Napoleon pizza and cheap white wine for my Thanksgiving dinner. However, as I am waiting for my Mom to call my hostel, in walks my sister – fresh from the U.S. Now, in my family, you have to understand that I got all the geography skills. Catherine struggles with some maps. This was her first time out of the country, and she did not speak any Italian. She made it from our tiny college in Kansas, to London, then Milan and finally to Naples (and to a well hidden hostel), so that we could spend Thanksgiving together. I was so proud of her. Before she returned to school, we traveled to 3 countries. In France, she was my French translator. We had the best time. For instance, we had a plate full of – what could be considered- swimming fish, on Ischia, for our Thanksgiving meal, much better than cheap wine and pizza! Also, since she had finals coming up, she brought almost all her books to Italy. Luckily for us, we met U.S. sailors who carried them up a mountain for us! It was such a great gift from our Mom. Therefore, I would love the opportunity to travel again with my cartographic improving sis! We study different languages and where I lack, she picks up the slack. Together, we make an unstoppable team, and we are prepared to take on the world!
