This is Mareesia. Her mother checks her out on the weekends and prostitutes her for extra spending money. She then returns her to the orphanage for the week so she doesn’t have to take care of her. She refuses to sign the papers allowing Mareesia to be adopted, so she can continually have her extra spending money on the weekends. This results in Mareesia being socially awkward and doesn’t respond when people talk to her. Unfortunately, she is not the only little girl with this sad story.
