After a long time in my little Geo Tracker roadtripmobile, we decided a rest stop was in order. We were on our way to New Orleans to see some of my family, who offered up king cake and crawfish boils. It was Shaun’s first time going, Krystal’s (in maroon) second time, and Markie’s (behind Krystal) first time back since Katrina. This turned out to be more of a run-our-energy-out stop, with exploration of ponds and a small forest off the highway.
The photo encompasses so much of the trip to me— the wide open sky and space for the feeling of breaking free on a much needed trip. Shaun’s long stride was suspended mid-run, excitement taking a breath, as had our trip in the anticipation of not making it to dear New Orleans yet.
Markie and Krystal’s sleepy curiosity acknowledges the truly draining element of every good discovery-filled trip, and my blue car in the background, the pivotal point for the trip and the photo, is still there to connect us back to the road and the trip and keep us going, as it waits ever so patiently in the background.
