The Wellington Arch was built to commemorate England’s victory in the Napoleonic Wars. It earned its current moniker when a statue honoring the 1st Duke of Wellington was placed on top. For this photograph, I focused on the 28 ft high bronze statue, which was set off by the brilliant afternoon sky. Viewing the statue from near the arch’s base, I was able to emphasize the movement of the chariot horses at its front.
