One hot summer day, Mel sent me an IM asking me what I was doing over the holiday break. I said nothing and she asked if I wanted to go to Germany with her. We both have friends studying in Germany and thought it would be a great idea to go visit them over the holiday. Three days later we logged onto the STA website and purchased tickets to Europe. Five months later we found ourselves wondering through the endless history of London, Koln, and Berlin with a German and an American who speaks German. Neither one of us spoke German, minus the simple conversation we learned before the trip out of a book. We spent Christmas in Koln and New Year’s Eve twenty feet from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. We not only had a wonderful time clubbing it up, but we learned a little history and a little German on the way. It was the time of our lives and if we could experience another trip like that … our lives would be complete. Auf wiedersehen!
