Starlin and I spent a semester together adventuring around Europe. From Paris to Madrid and everywhere nearby, we experienced the highs and the lows that come with traveling on a tight budget. My favorite memories are of all the times we would take out our Lonely Planet guides—trying to decipher the map to our hostel, and end up going up and down side streets for hours just trying to find the way. The funny thing is, getting lost was how we really experienced the cities that we visited—meeting the most eccentric kinds of people, and just about anyone who had ever taken an English course and spotted our American smiles. Even while stumbling around back alleys though, having no clue where we were at, we always had something to laugh about and could just bask in the fact that we were lost. In a foreign country. With no one else to laugh about the man who ‘meowed’ at us in Porto or the Parisian kebab restaurant owner who invited us dancing, but eachother.
