I love traveling with Andrew because he loves experiencing foreign countries as locals do. When he and I went to Hawaii, we quickly determined that all “touristy” spots were surrounded by tiki torches and these were places that we wanted to avoid. In this spirit, we heard of an amazing local restaurant that was a little over a mile and a half to walk to. After we are started our short trek towards dinner, we quickly discovered that our walk was along a fairly busy road that had minimal curbs and for part of the distance had no sidewalks. When we finally arrived at the restaurant we discovered that local Hawaiian restaurants close around 7:30 or 8pm. To our dispair, we turned right around hungry and slowly made our way back towards “Dukes,” a local tourist hot spot. We sat and truly enjoyed dinners typically found at chain restuarants and gulped down pina coladas in the light of a blazing tiki torch. It’s fun to support local business but can be equally amazing to relax and enjoy the local scenary. Foreign travel is inspiring and I love traveling with Andrew because of how much he appreciates foreign culture, politics, business and especially how inspired he is by the geography.
