Immunizations.

Do I look like the sort of person who is made of money? Umm no. I eat at places like Denny's and think its a classy night.
Apparently, my doctor must have thought the opposite when I moseyed on into the clinic to get my immunizations for my trip to India.
I had called about a month prior to my trip to inquire how many of my internal organs I would need to sell to afford being "healthy" by avoiding malaria and the like during my travels. The nice and grandmotherly woman who answered the phone informed me that the inital visit was $75.00 for new patients, and that the shots/immunizations could go up to $200.00. I had asked if, in her experience, shots for India fell into that $200.00 range typically, and she assured me that in most cases they do. Most cases. Apparently I am one of the few that do not fall into the "most cases" catagory. In fact, I must have been the lone person to tip the scales, so to speak. Tipping them to the $514.00 dollar mark, to be exact. Plus, the prescription for malaria pills I still had to send into express scripts, which I was quite certain that my insurance policy would dutifully refuse to cover, like the rest of my immunizations. I mean, seriously, am I honestly going to get polio in India? Its not like FDR is going to be falling all over me, and infecting me with his polio germs. Because, he's kind of dead. Well, apparently my doctor thought I would have a brush with the Roosevelt's and insisted that "polio" be part of my immunization "therapy".
You think i'm kidding, but I totally am not. I must have had a huge "abuse me financially" sign attached to my face b/c that is exactly what they did. They violated my bank account mercilessly, and didn't even offer to buy me dinner first. Katrina and The Waves be damned, but I was NOT walking on sunshine after I left that office, with my battle wounds covered by many Blues Clues band aids.
After all of that bitching, I really hoped I wouldn't contract something. In the end, I will never have to get another shot for ANY country for the next TEN years; a good investment. Didn't seem like it at the time, but I'm trying to brainwash myself into believing that now :)
