Spring Break: volunteer-style

In college, I never went in for the traditional Spring Break. It's not that I wasn't into partying--far from it. In other months in other years my friends and I made road trips to Memphis, New Orleans, and the many giant state school college town in neighboring states (I went to college in Georgia, at the esteemed party school the University of Georgia).
But, I spent my Spring Breaks volunteering. Perhaps it was because I already spent so much of my free time "enjoying" myself instead of studying, I felt it necessary to dedicate my break to other people. Whatever the reason, I found it incredibly rewarding and I made lifelong friends.
One year I worked with the AIDS Coalition in Mobile, Alabama. Another, I built a house with other Habitat for Humanity helpers in Athens, GA (didn't get too far, that year). I loved the effusive thank yous from the people we were helping, as well as the jovial comraderie that grew up between myself and my fellow volunteers.
If you want to spend one of your breaks volunteering, come into STA. We have a lot of options for volunteering, or just getting you and your group of fellow good samaritans where you need to be as cheaply as possible. You can reward your altruism with a trip to Mexico the next time you have a break!
I always wished that I did Habitat for spring break or some other volunteer project…
