Meeting Local Children

One thing that I have noticed during my travels is that kids are always the most curious about the strangers passing by. Why not take the time to meet some? They are funny, sweet, and more than willing to teach you the local language if you are not all that proficient. In Egypt, I would usually carry some hard candies in my pockets (money put safely somewhere else). Any time I was going out to tour around at the historic sites, I would give the kids some candies and just laugh with them. Futbal was always a favorite activity for my friends who did not know any arabic. The kids loved playing futbal with new people. Many times, their parents would end up inviting my friends and me to join them for tea or even for dinner. Egyptians are very hospitable people! Talk about a fast, easy, and very uplifting way to get to know the local people. But, I caution you now, when one kid knows you have candy, they ALL know you have candy!!!
