For people that are more interested in adventure sports than history. Dont forget that Egypt offers scuba diving in the Red Sea. If you are going to be anywhere near Egypt or even likely to fly over it on an Around the World trip, why not take the time to stop and go swimming in some of the best reef and shipwreck dive sites. STA can help you get a flight out to Sharm el-Sheikh (Southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula) and from there we can help you get a dive package.
Dont know how to scuba dive yet????
Well, most places in Egypt will offer PADI Certified diving courses as well. I got my PADI certification there and then continued on to some longer trips out on the Liveaboard boats that get to the dive locations further from the beach.
Most of our tours in Egypt can also be extended to include some time in Sinai or Hurgada where you can do some diving.
And, yes you can wear a swim suit when at the beach and there are usually bars and clubs near by. Egypt may be a Muslim country, but it is not that conservative in the beach towns.
One thing to remember when planning a few days to dive the waters of the Red Sea, also plan 24 hours to relax on the beach and soak up some sun before you fly out or hike Mt. Sinai. You need time to adjust again before changing altitudes.
Yes, I totally agree!!! I just got back from a trip to Egypt and we went SCUBA diving in the Red Sea and it was amazing! Part of out tour took us to Marsa Alam, which is just south of Hurghada, and is an amazing new resort town, still very virgin. The reefs are completely untouched, like Sharm was about 10 years ago. There we dove with a company called Empire Divers…they were extremely professional and knowledgeable about the dive sites and local marine life. We stayed at a resort called Sol Y Mar solitaire and it was Gorgeous! right on the beach and the dive company picked us up for free! We flew into Cairo and toured there and then flew to Hurghada from Cairo on Egypt air and had a transfer to Marsa Alam from there included in our tour package. The drive down the coast was beautiful! If you are a diver and are up for an amazing adventure, I would also reccoment Red Sea diving, especially in the untouched resort town of Marsa Alam! Message me if you have any questions about my vacation, and like Heakins, definalty make sure you dont forget a day at the end of your trip to relax and decompress!
