Off the Beaten Path

I am going to be in Rome from January to June and I am looking for some good spots to go for weekends and other breaks. I am hoping to visit some cities that are not always traditional tourist cities. I was looking at going to Zurich, Sofia, Bucharest, Minsk and Copenhagen but am not quite sure what these places offer. I also am looking at Eastern Europe but any suggestions are welcome. Also if anyone knows of great places to go in the winter because thats when i'll be over there for the majority of the time! Thanks!

There are lots of places to hit in Italy….like Pompeii, Sorrentto, Capri, Cinque Terra, Lucca, Siena, Como, Verona….my most favorite is the Aeolean Islands off Sicily….great place, lots of fun, and way off the beaten path. You can also do Croatia (gorgeous) and not yet infiltrated by tons of travelers, Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic (close to Prague cool and cheap), Budapest in Hungry is up and coming for sure and beautiful, great nightlife too, Poland is a new favorite of mine as well. Krakow has a surprisingly young college town feel mixed with grand castles, history, numerous day trips to chose from too. Greece is quite close and some of the islands aren’t as touristty as others. Italy is easy enough to get around from. There are cheap flights to get you almost anywhere. I have been to Europe 13 times so feel free to ask questions. Sorry I would tell you more but I think my brain is shot right now. Hope this helps a little.

ohhh and in the Netherlands… Noordwijk is a great. little beach front town way off the beaten path and the flying pig even has a little hostel there too. Leiden is the bigger town closest to it but still small. A downsized way more relaxed version of Amsterdam but with Tulip fields, and windmills..the whole dutch effect!!!

Zurich’s very cool… just be prepared to spend money! The dollar compares well against the Swiss Franc, but everything is very expensive due to the high taxes.

It’s a beautiful town, though. Good nightlife and excellent shopping, too!

If you want to go to Eastern Europe make sure you go to Krokow, Poland on of the coolest cities I have experience and I’ve been to a lot of places. It has the most amazing town square and the people there were so friendly. These random polish sisters gave us a tour around Krokow’s beautiful castle and thought me and my buddies a lot about Polish history and Dragon Myths. It was awsome. The night life is great too.
