C'est La Vie
Well Ciao fellow travelers!
I hope your New Years was fabulashhhh...yes Fabu-LASH! Mine was...oh it for sure was. I went to Las Vegas on a whim. I booked my flight to Vegas from Austin, Texas at Midnight on the 31st. I left for the airport at 4am. Switched planes in Houston at 7am and was in Las Vegas at 9am. And this is all on the sleep I got on the plane. I didn't mention, since I booked so late, my seat was unfortunately between two ladies in the very back of the plane. Normally, this would not bother me, but we had some "boundary issues" and since I am a sizable 6 feet tall, leg room is not "ideal" in the middle seat.
Anyways, when I land my friend Ashley picks me up and we begin a 5 hour journey up and down the Las Vegas Strip. Las Vegas is amazing. I bow to Las Vegas. I gambled, started sipping on a margharita at 12pm and made friends with foreigners along the way. By 5pm, Ashley and I had somehow meandered back to our suite at Mandalay Bay. I collapsed on the couch for about 10 minutes, then started getting ready for the night ahead.
Ashley and I left our amazing suite with our new Indian friend Payal, around 10pm for the Nightclub Tabu. We proceed to run half naked down the strip to MGM. We didn't bring coats, because at the time we thought they would "get in the way." Idiots. Even though Las Vegas is in the desert, it still dips into the 10's at night. It was around -10 degrees that night. I was wearing a short dress and Ashley was lucky with pants.
We make it to the MGM and encounter a very drunk Brazilian on our way in. We decide to promptly adopt him. To make things better his name is "Ricardo", but he is only 20. Why is he in Vegas? Anyways, we take him with us to Tabu and try to get him in. No dice. Too bad. Bye bye Brazilian...
Tabu is a bust. We leave and proceed to run half naked AGAIN down Las Vegas Boulevard. While running, we get a lot of "arent you cold", "the parties this way" and some "you are crazy" comments from the locals lined up to see the fireworks and out of towners such as ourselves.
We get back to our suite. Outfit change. Run outside just in time to fireworks going off. Wow. They were awesome. We realize we should try to atleast get some food. Food makes everything better doesn't it?
We sit down at the nicest restaurant in Mandalay Bay and relive the crazy night over Quesadillas, Hot Chocolate and French Fires. That is the best way to ring in the New Year.
By 4 am, I am passed out on the 12th floor of Mandalay Bay next to the window looking onto the strip, laying on 5 cushions from the couch. Its a beautiful view. This city does not sleep. I embrace that, but I think for now I will sleep, for the both of us.
Vegas.
The most unique place I have been yet.
