Due to the high volume of messages I've been getting on here, Facebook, and MySpace, I though it would be easiest to answer people's most popular World Traveler Internship questions in blog form. Hope this helps! In your words…
1. I'm really interested in the internship, but I don't have extensive travel experience. Do I still stand a chance of being chosen?
Absolutely! You don't have to have vast amounts of travel experience to get the internship. What you do have to have is a good balance of energy, curiosity, tech skills, and strength in language. If you can show off some sweet video skills, illustrate your love of photography, or wow STA Travel with your enthusiasm and creativity, you're in the running.
2. I'm not necessarily the podcast or video type. Should I still apply if I love to travel?
Quite frankly, if you don’t like to be in front of the camera or produce films and podcasts, you'd be better suited in another internship. There are plenty of summer opportunities through universities and companies that can take you around the globe; however, to be the World Traveler Intern you need to be prepared to make podcasts and films. After all, this is your shot at inspiring others to travel, and it needs to be interactive!
3. What is STA Travel looking for in its next World Traveler Intern?
STA Travel wants an intern who is energetic, curious, and ready to explore the globe. They also need someone who has great communication skills that can be put toward blogs and writing for podcasts/videos. In addition, the intern has to have some tech experience and must also have experience with film and/or photography.
**Finally, STA Travel wants someone creative!! If I were to give only one bit of advice to hopefuls, it would be this - get creative with your application video! You want to grab STA Travel's attention, and you also want to get vital information across at the same time. How can you let them know who you are while keeping them interested? I'm sure you'll think of something :)
4. What about the application? I mean... can you, the former World Traveler Intern, help me with mine?
Uh, sorry guys - that's a no go. I didn't have anyone hooking me up with answers, and I still landed the job! Aside from the issue of fairness, how would STA Travel ever get to know who YOU are if someone else were filling out your application? Express who you truly are, and STA Travel will listen.
5. I'm under/over the age limit. Can I still apply?
Sorry, but no. You must be between the ages of 18-26 to apply.
6. And do I really have to be a current student?
Yep.
7. I'm just graduating in May, so I'm technically not enrolled as a student after that... can I still be the World Traveler Intern?
This one's a bummer for me to answer. I'm sorry to say that if you are graduating this May, you can't fill the role of the World Traveler Intern. You have to actually be continuing on to at least another semester after this summer to be eligible. Sorry to all those soon-to-be-graduating hopefuls.
8. I'm feeling short on time. If the application's due in March and I haven't made my video, do I still have enough time to put together all I need?
Most definitely - just get crackin! I actually happened upon the internship posting a bit late last year and only had a span of two weeks or so to get my stuff together. So, don't freak out if you think that you have too little time -- just make the remaining time really work. Stretch it. Mold it. And hop to it.
9. Finally, any more stories or experiences to relay?
Put quite simply, this internship was the most exciting experience of my life thus far. I couldn't have asked for a more broadening and fulfilling journey, and I couldn't have had more fun living the student experience. So, if you think you’re ready to take on the position, get your application in to STA Travel! Then, cross your fingers that I’ll be passing the torch to you one of these days :)

Best of luck from the World Traveler Intern of 2007,
Rachel
Thank you for posting these answers! Just put the finishing touches on my app vid, so a bit late on my part, but I am nonetheless reassured that I am going down a good path.
