I did it!! I bought my ticket, yes it sends me round the world and yes I have given myself a month to travel overland from Kolkata to Beijing.
I am still in absolute shock that I have almost the entire month of July to work my way though Tibet. It is going to be one crazy adventure and I had better start planning where I'd like to go and what I'd like to see.
The Thoughts right now are mostly about three things. Lhasa is of course an absolue must. Then I think I'd like to work some time in the mountains in, and of course the train.
The fascination with Lhasa is pretty standard. Exploring Budhism, it seems like an important place to be. It has an amazing history, and it's story of current non-violence and occupation is equally inspiring. After traveling through Ladhak last year I am psyched to see what Tibet, and it's long forbidden capital are all about.
Really though I think the beauty of the place is in its mountains, which being said means I will have to get on the whole idea of getting in shape and perpared for some serious altitude trekking!!
As far as the train goes I really have my fingers crossed on that one. Hopefully we can figure out buying the tickets and more importantly I have to hope they are letting foreigners on! Especially with the whole olympic rush. This is going to be one crazy summer.
what an awesome trip!
