The Unbeaten Path...

Much to say on my voyage through Vancouver Island. I met up with old friends from Italy, and we had a blissful few days of non stop chatting. We even finished the daunting task of planning a summer vacation together, throughout Europe! After a few days, we decided to hit the road north. I had never been on this type of road trip before; aimlessly driving with no real destination in view. I found it involves lots of opportunities to savor local cuisine, and local color, creative problem solving on where to spend the night, and a lot of stops of rest areas of the highway! However, we did finally find a destination: Hornby Island.

This island is one of the most beautiful spots I have found in North America. It truly has been left untouched. Completely unpaved, and no buildings in sight, save for the few at the landing point. What you have to do, is hike the rugged trails, and savor a stunning view when you reach the end. For miles, there is nothing but sky, and the bright blue water. If you are so inclined, you can hike down to the beaches and go kayaking for the day! There are many islands in coastal B.C. similar to this one, but I wonder how long it will be before they slowly begin to be built up. My advice to you intrepid travelers? Go now!
