DON'T OVERPACK!!! (Seriously, you'll thank me later.) Is it really neccessary to look like you just stepped off a runway (modeling runway, that is) while you're trapsing around being a tourist? No! Leave your straighteners and your heels and your "going out" attire at home! Once nice outfit is more than enough for trying a swanky restaurant or go out to an upscale club.

My rule of thumb, if I KNOW I'm going to use it, I pack it. If I think it might come in handy but I'm not sure if I need it- it's out. I traveled for 5 months in New Zealand, Fiji, Thailand, and Cambodia with a carry-on size rolling suitcase and a small (school-book size) backpack. I never felt overwhelmed by luggage- it was perfect!
