When traveling in developing countries!

*Just some simple tips and recommendations that have saved my life for all of you who love traveling!

-Don't just be a tourist in developing countries! Help some sick kids or needy people! They will teach you so many amazing things!

-I have had malaria! Take your anti-malaria meds when your supposed to! If you vomit right after taking it for one reason or another, take another one. Do NOT EVER take Atovaquone-proguanil, trade name Malarone OR Mefloquine, trade name Lariam. Both of these can give you horrible hallucinations and other side effects like they did to me! I normally just take Doxycycline now.

-Don't forget your Immodium and pain-relievers. When traveling in developing countries you are bound to get some kind of stomach discomfort or food-poisoning sometime or another and it can be fatal depending on the parasite or bacteria. Don't drink tap water, only bottle water by good brands, careful about fresh fruits and veggies like lettuce and tomatoes. Fruits like pinapple and coconut are safer because of the hard covering! People also forget about dishes and utensils. Many times, they will be washed in unclean water which makes you susceptible to all kinds of diseases and illnesses!

-Never let yourself get dehyrdated! Drink tons of bottled water! You may think well... duh! But the climate of some countries truly can suck the life out of you quicker than you realize and get you feeling bad and fast!

-get your doctor to prescribe you some tablets of Azithromycin or some other antibiotic. Can save your life! Azithromycin is very effective against many microorganisms that are common in all developing countries from things like food poisoning. I recommend getting a "Tri-Pak," which has tablets for three days. These pills can clear up a majority of illnesses you may get.

-don't forget the hand sanitizer, baby wipes, a roll of TP, and a first aid kit!

-I love traveling spontaneously, but it can get you into deep trouble! Always have some back up plans in case you have run ins with the police or corrupt individuals. Better safe than sorry.

-always carry a thin sleeping bag and small tent! You never know when you will get stuck somewhere or even find a beautiful place you want to chill at. A tent is great for avoiding all those mosquitos and keeping you dry!

-watch your back! Always! be constantly aware of your surroundings to avoid pick-pocketing, robberies, kidnappings, and worse!

-If your in a developing country without medical training, be careful around people you may think seem strangely ill or you don't know what they have. There are a lot of diseases and illnesses that are highly contageous that you need to watch out for! (Keep an "eye" out for Trachoma, a very contageous infection of the eye, that is very easy to catch)

-if you get sick in a developing country, there are usually pharmacies around that are pretty safe to buy medications or antibiotics from. Know what you need before you go to the pharmacy.

WOO HOO! Have fun! !Cuidate mucho mis amigos!
