Hiya,
Wow! Hong Kong! This city of 7 million people is so alive, so full of vitality. The people are always moving forward, both literally and metaphorically. The city never sleeps, and I live by the philosophy “when in Rome,” so I am uber sleep-deprived myself (but I like it that way).
I have landed a phenomenal internship! The professionals in my office are so welcoming and friendly, and give me real tasks as if I were a full-time employee. I’m learning so much by getting real-life experience in this dynamic Asian market.
As in any major city, there is plenty to do after work…so I’m always busy. Hong Kong is a launching pad for many students and recent grads my age. They stop in for a few months up to a few years. This revolving-door atmosphere lends to the vibe of a constant college orientation, where new people are always being introduced. This allowed me to make friends quickly and easily, and I’ve been able to do the most incredible things in my free time (surfing, hiking, yachting, shopping, and exploring lots of surrounding islands to name a few).
This truly is the city where East meets West. I’ve found you can live completely contradicting lifestyles in HK…so this lends itself to many diverse people being happy here. You can wake up and have a fully Chinese day…tai chi in the park, visiting temples and markets, eating Chinese dim sum and yum cha, and going to a holistic, traditional Chinese medicine shop. Or, you can do the complete opposite. You can go to Disneyland, eat at an American style restaurant, and shop at H&M or Levis. Like most things in life, Hong Kong is what you make of it. Regardless, it is one-of-a-kind in a really exciting way!
I should have a video up VERY soon that’ll give you all a great glimpse into HK through my eyes…check in soon
Much love from HK,
Kristen
