If you are traveling to Egypt, you really should see the Red Sea afterwords. I thought it was the best ending ever to our trip. We first toured the pyramids and Cairo and all of those wonderous sights, and then took a flight to Hurghada and a transfer to Marsa Alam. Now, most people at our resort in Marsa had never seen an American in person before. Mostly people from Europe travel there, especially Italians. All of the Egyptian employees at the hotel spoke fluent Italian, some German, and of course Arabic. But when they began speaking to us in Italian, and we said we were from America, they were shocked, most of them said NO, it can't be! They spoke English too, and were so super friendly, it was amazing. SCUBA diving in the Red Sea and relaxing on the beach and in the pool right next to the crystal clear aquamarine waters was the perfect ending to spending a few days in the desert exploring the last remaining wonder of the ancient world. I suggest everyone who is going to trek out to Egypt to definalty end their trip with a relaxing dip in the Red Sea. By the way, it is so cheap to go there. We staying in 5*resorts, had private A/C transfers, all sightseeing admitance and most meals included, all for around $400 for 8 days. It was unbelievable.
There are lots of great places along the Red Sea coast!!! My favorite is Basata, about 15 km from the Israeli border. It is just a wonderful place to camp on the beach and relax. Also, dont forget that STA Travel has several great opprotunities for tours in Egypt AND for scuba diving trips as well. It does not matter if you have every gone scuba diving before. They also offer beginners classes. Speaking from experience, there are very few locations that compair to learning how to scuba dive than the gorgeous reefs of the Red Sea. And for those of you who are more experienced, there are even some reck dives!!! My favorite was the SS Thistlegorm off the Southern tip of Sinai. You litterally dive right into the middle of a World War II cargo ship that had the middle blown out. Then go thru the ships corridors and out the other side. There is still millitary equipment everywhere.
