Time is flying by fast- less than eight weeks to go until we fly to New Zealand, and there is so much to do.
We are still trying to sort out the vaccines we'll need for Vietnam. We left a message with a travel doctor at our clinic, but have gotten only incredibly vague replies from the clinic- we may need Japanese Encephalitis if we'll be in the country, and rabies if we'll be exposed to bats, and depending on where in the country we are, we might need typhoid, flu, and malaria. The nurse I spoke to wasn't sure if I needed hepatitis A and B or not, even though the list of shots I would need was supposed to be based on my immunization record (and the list of provinces we'll be visiting...).
I think we'll either try to get an an appointment to speak to the doctor in person, or else get a second opinion from a travel doctor at the university.
We've also been trying to get hotels booked- our credit card was frozen after trying to wire money to Vietnam with Western Union for a deposit, and we keep forgetting to call the bank to sort that out. Also, a lot of reviews online are contradictory, so it's hard to know where we should stay.
And the train tickets- it looks like it will cost an extra $200 to book them in advance, from the US, but we worry that we won't get the times we need if we wait until we are there!
So many things to sort out- and so little time- we leave the day after I finish my student teaching...
