New Years In Oz

It’s the big night! The one I came for! So, Me, Rachel, Maritess and Laura arrived here at the Opera House at about 2:30. We wanted good seats. So we came right after the Contiki tour.

^ So I wrote that in the hotel before we left. Now for the good stuff!

So we took some photos, like the one above before finding some seats. And let me tell you. We had some kick ass seats. Right at the bottom of the Opera House stairs with a beautiful view of the harbour and Harbour Bridge. It was to die for.

We ate and ate and chatted till 9pm. Which was when they had the family fireworks. Not to much really. It was nothing like the big thing! But it was exciting. It got us all pumped for midnight. See the photo to the side. But it was a great show. I mean for a little family fireworks show. Everything was done to music which made it a lot more fun. While waiting me and Laura wrote in our journals. So here is what I wrote.

“It’s the big night! The one I came for! It’s starting to get really exciting. There are people everywhere. Only 2 1/2 hours before the first show, the family one. And only 5 1/2 till the big shindig! So yeah, Me, Rachel, Laura and Maritess have been here at the harbour since about 2:30. It’s been a long afternoon. But it’s gona be totally worth it in the end. And we have a perfect view! I could not ask for more! And the drinking is good. Started before we left. How crazy is that, I have never in my life started drinking that early. Everyone around here is pretty drunk though.”

During the night they kept on lighting up the bridge. They started with a question mark. To keep us guessing what was going to be on the bridge. Then it changed to a coat hanger, because the bridge is nicknamed the “coat hanger” and then finally when the midnight fireworks went off it finally went to a sparkling emerald. The theme of this years new years was “a night in emerald city”.

But boy. The midnight show. Holy cow, I have never seen such a fireworks show before. You had to look everywhere! Fireworks were going off on the bridge of course, out in the water, off the buildings, and the Opera House. It was so amazing. It was a full half hour. No joke.

Getting out of the crowd after the night was over was completely insane. It look a hour. And we didn’t get back until 2am. It was such a great walk back. We even got sparklers. Everyone was dancing around and yelling out in the streets.

If I could. I would do it all over again. Best New Year’s yet! Hand’s down!
