Do you want your travel to have some benefit to the world around you? Try assisting researchers with sea turtle conservation in Costa Rica! With i-to-i you can participate in ongoing projects designed to understand and protect the sea turtles.

Here is what tagging turtles is like:
Your first night shift is amazing… No lights are allowed on the beach, but your eyes adjust and you can see by the light of the brilliant night sky. Each time you find a turtle nesting, your small group drops down in the sand to begin its work. Measure the carapace and flippers. Check the turtle for irregularities. Count her eggs as she lays them and diagram the nests. Finally, record every step as you observe researchers tag the turtle.

After the research has succesfully tagged the turtle, you get to watch it make it's way down the beach, back to the ocean using it's powerful flippers before walking the beach to find more. Every night is amazing and your heart pumps with adrenaline as you come in contact with this massive, ancient animals. You might come in contact with Green, Hawksbill and even Leatherback sea turtles all in one night!

Besides, you will also have time to explore the rainforest, relax, canoe, spot wildlife, surf and chill on some of the most beautiful beaches on earth!

If you want to know more about what it's like in Costa Rica or how to get invloved with this research, feel free to post on my board and I will get in touch with you. You can also call 919-928-8844 to speak with me directly.

Cool! I saw a sea turtle when I was diving off of Cozumel and it was amazing! It would be so rewarding to work with them.

One way you can save sea turtles is by ordering turtle-safe shrimp. Thousands of sea turtles are killed each year by fishing nets that don’t use turtle escape hatches. How to save the sea turtles
