Hey Everyone!
We're just getting ready to leave Venice and Italy for good and wanted to write one more update before our long trip to Brazil. Siena and Venice have been so amazing. You really get a sense of the Italian culture in these two cities. We have enjoyed some great Italian food in both places, been to many sights (some amazing churches), and walked through numerous stores and street markets. We've been trying our luck haggaling for prices with the locals. Everything is very expensive here but we have had the chance to enjoy ourselves.
In Florence we actually got into the Acadamia, which we were told we needed a reservation for a month in advance, and got to see Michelangelo's David . We saw the local dome (church) which was HUGE.
Next, we went to the science museum where we saw a ton of cool old stuff, including Galileo's finger!!! We also walked through Santa Croce church which was cool but under some construction so it was not as magnificint as we expected.
We were only in Siena one night and got so lost on the way to our hotel. We took the wrong bus and then followed a local lady who barely spoke english about 30 min in the wrong direction until we finally just decided to get a cab. We had an amazing dinner in Il Campo square. Then we had the biggest Gelato cones that you can imagine, it was GREAT! Our hotel was wonderful, andwe had the hugest breakfast buffet ever. Oddly enough, all the electricity in our room was controlled by our room key.
Venice was one of our favorites. A city with no automobiles and everyone gets around by boat. It's sinking you know, you should come while you can. ; ) We walked around until we got lost one day just enjoying the sights and experiencing the culture. Last night we ate on the water in San Marco square and then enjoyed a bunch of live music where local bands have "play offs" on the streets. We also got a caricature done while in the square! We're running out of time for the internet so hopefully we will get one more update out before our trip ends otherwise you will probably hear from us when it's over. Ciao!
