Travel Tips

  • By all means visit the city, but remember to leave the busy centers to view the country sides, a different side to wherever you are visiting. It is often where you find the most preserved traditional culture. So fascinating!
  • In Japan: A definite must= If you want to stand on the escalator, stay to the left. If you want to walk, walk on the right side. Courtesy is key here and I love this country for that reason alone.
  • Don't be afraid to try new foods.
  • Maps are your friends! i love map, i love studying them and knowing where i am.
  • Don't be afraid to try new things, you may actually like it.
  • Be culturally sensitive. Find out at least a little about the local traditions, customs, etiquette, religions etc. For a woman, dress and modesty are important but they should also be balanced with practicality.
  • If you go to France, learn to say "bonjour" and say it to everyone with whom you are about to communicate. If it is just that that you know of French, it will get you so much further with the french people
  • When I visit...I make sure that I always know how to get back to my hotel/hostel. If I am in a country where I do not speak the language, I carry the hotels card or a matchbook with their name and address on it.
  • If you're in Mexico and a nice looking man asks to meet you at the "disco," don't go.
  • Always have an emergency $20 rolled up somewhere in your wallet.
