Devote a day or two or a few to stuffing your belly with the culture's best dishes.
When traveling ,ask the native people when shopping or interacting where authentic local restaurants are so that you avoid tourist traps and get a great meal!
Get lost! Also, respect your surroundings and try to be as open-minded as possible.

Rio, Ipenema beach is much nicer to stay even though Copacabana is famous for their beach!
When I travel alone to a remote place, I will go there in my safe period.
Always bring waterproof clothing to St Petersburg, and really good shoes. Not just comfortable, but sturdy. Estonia requires a sense of humour and good tipping; same for Latvia.
Eat local foods, stay in youth hostels where you can exchange travel experience and ideas with other travelers, sleep enough to enjoy your visit, and pack very light to make your travel simple and quick.
In London, GO TO SPEAKERS CORNER on a Sunday morning!
Ladies...make sure to pack a lightweight ankle-length skirt or pants for visits to the Royal Palace in Bangkok. You will not be allowed in unless you are appropriately dressed.
