Hey Lydia, I read your message on gnarlyboys message board and saw that you were from upstate new york. I am from the adirondacks so I thought it was cool seeing somebody who's from upstate new york. I am interested in the same things you are and would like to make some friends.

Hi Lydia! Sorry I took forever to answer your message...I don't log on to STA Travel as often as I wish I would. My parents are from Mexico so I go there and visit almost every year. I go to Guadalajara to visit some friends before I go to the small towns where my parents are from, which are 2 hours west of Guadalajara. I love the small towns because the air is so fresh and clean and I feel peaceful when I go there. Have you ever been to Guadalajara? You should go...there is a lot to see and it is beautiful. That is amazing that you have been around the world. I'm taking German and I would like to visit Germany someday. Thank you so much for sharing your travels with me and I will share my travels if I ever go somewhere else! :) Thank you!!

I'd love to hear about your time in Central America. I am studying Spanish again and would love to go there to use it! Did you make it to New Zealand for the break?

All your travels sound amazing! I was pretty much born to travel... Was born in Saudi Arabia, lived there for 3 years. Lived in the Philippines for 5, lived in the U.S. for 14. I've traveled to a lot of places here in the U.S., Canada...and I studied abroad in Granada, Spain this summer! I LOVED IT! I managed to travel to 10 cities in Spain, and even went to Gibraltar to play with the monkeys! I also ran with the bulls in Pamplona! What a rush! I'm constantly looking for opportunities to go abroad, but right now with nursing school, it's hard. But once i get out, I would LOVE to do a travelling nurse program. Anywhere.

Wow! Sailing from Mexico to Fiji sounds amazing! Is that what you did during Seamester? I considered doing Seamester but opted for Semester at Sea instead which was undeniably the greatest experience of my life so far. It gave me a love for places and cultures I never thought I would be able to visit. Now I am hoping to leave next summer to teach English in Thailand for a year and travel all over SE asia while I'm there (my favorite area in the world) and maybe Austrailia and New Zealand too????? It sounds like you have had some amazing adventures as well. What would you be doing in New Zealand if you go?

Hey! Sounds like you've been all over the place... I'm jealous! I'm originally from NC but am currently living in New York. So far I've been to England, Scotland, Peru, and France. I'm probably going to The Bahamas over spring break, and if all goes according to plan, I'm going to Europe this summer with a couple of my friends... we're thinking about doing Italy and Greece, but we'll see. Where are you hoping to go next? Talk to you later! -Leigh

Hi! I was originally born in California, but have lived in Minnesota most of life and am currently attending college in the cities. I have been to several areas around the world. I was scuba certified in Curacao, traveled around Argentina and met the Vice President, spent two weeks on an ice-breaker in Antarctica, studied animal behavior in South Africa, and traveled with a student group through the British Isles for three weeks. In less than a month, I will be traveling to Australia to study Sociology. I love to travel, and hope to continue to travel and experience different cultures throughout the rest of my life. Hopefully I will be able to participate in doctors wtihout borders when I graduate medical school.

Well Lydia, I've been to Nicaragua 3 times. Twice on mission trips to build homes and dig water lines. Then this summer I went by myself without the church to visit friends and have my own personal 2 week vacation by myself. it was GREAT. This coming summer I am hoping to travel to Florence with Missouri State Un. for a month to study Photography and Culinary Arts. Come on taking photos and learning how to cook Italian in Italy. Totally worth the 10,000 loan. I hope to travel to New Zealand someday to rock climb. I've been to CA 5 or 6 times. I love it out there and plan to move after college. Only 1 and 1/2 years. Hope your winter break goes well. Good Luck:)!!!

Hello Lydia! I would highly recommend New Zealand. My fiancé is from Wellington and I was there two years ago. Such a beautiful, clean country! I would say Switzerland may be cleaner, but if so not by much. I spent last fall semester in Europe living primarily in Basel, Switzerland and Florence, Italy. We also traveled all around and visited several countries. Aside from being all along the East Coast and as far west as Kansas, that is the extent of my travels thus far. I intend to expand my list as soon as funding allows! :)

I lived on a traditional schooner for 6 weeks in 2005 and sailed form San Juan to Baltimore while stopping along in diff. islands.. I havent dont much traveling outside of that and my Brasil-US commute while visiting friends, family, etc.. However I am planning a trip to europe for next August and Germany is in my list of places to see! Any suggestions? =)

Hey Lydia, Sounds like you've been doing pretty well accomplishing your dream of traveling around the world. If you end up in New Zealand this winter you may never leave, I found it to be the best place in the world and have intentions of moving there for good in the next 5 years or so. I've been all around South-East Asia, Central America, Australia and the Hawaiian Islands as well as the West Coast of the US, but no place has grabbed me like NZ. Enjoy your trip and all your future trips!

Wow, that sounds awesome! Your little paragraph just inspired me even more! Yeah, I love the Latin American countries so much! I love the colors, food, art, and how the people's demeanor's are so warm. I have been to Mexico several times (though never lived there like you!), Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica. I am going to Puerto Rico in March on a Photography workshop. Everyone takes pictures all day and then at the end of the day you all critique each other's work. I have never done this kind of travel before but my dad has so it should be interesting. If you are interested in architecture at all you should go see the Greene and Greene house in Pasadena. It's called the Gamble House and it is really beautiful.

Hey Lydia! It was nice to get your message. You have some incredible travel stories and photos. I've been traveling for a long time myself. Throughout High school and college I spent time traveling back and forth from Boston to Honduras where my family runs a humanitarian program. My Sophmore year of college I studied abroad in Spain and traveled all of Western Europe, and my Junior Year I studied in Costa Rica and Traveled all of Central America. After I graduated I moved to Thailand for a year where I volunteered in an orphanage and taught English in Bangkok. While I was there I saw most of South East Asia and fell in love with it. There have also been some small trips to the Carribean ... St Lucia, Jamaica ... and last week I returned from a week in Mexico with my boyfriend. You could say I'm an addicted! I'm sure you know all about that. Currenlty I work for STA Travel, and I get to share my passion with other people who love to wander!

Haven't traveled to nearly as many places as you. How can you afford to do all those things?! If it's a job, tell me where I sign up. :) I've been to England/France countless times, not in several years, though. (Family in both places) I've been to various states multiple times throughout the US (Tenn, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, DC, and most recently California-for the first time-for a week in March with friends! I can't wait to go back! My oldest brother is out there now. He's trainhopping and loves it) I've been to Italy, although I don't remember much, and Switzerland, and unfortunately I was too young to remember that. :( I'm looking for a job, possibly a career that will allow me to go anywhere/everywhere. Right now, my best option as I see it is working as a flight attendant... Great hearing from you! You've been to some fascinating places and doing fantastic work! I'd love to travel and do conservation work and what not. Have fun, look forward to hearing from you again!

Lydia! Wow, that sounds amazing. I have not been to as many places as you have. I plan on it though! I have been to Hawaii quite a few times, New York, Pennsylvania, and the West Coast. I have not been to Canada yet...i'm not really sure why. Over the summer my brother and I traveled to South America with some friends who have family there. We stayed in Bolivia with our friends, in Peru with the family members of our friends(saw Macchu Picchu). We traveled to Chile on our own to stay with other friends there, and then made our way to Argentina. Our last stop was Costa Rica, where my friend Daniella lives, but we got homesick and cut the trip short by 2 weeks. It was amazing traveling and now i'm addicted. I would love to go to so many places...really anywhere. Especially Greece and Tahiti! Let's keep in touch!

Heya Lydia! Sounds like you're definitely enjoying your new life in Pasadena; never been there before, but California overall is absolutely beautiful. We definitely have some stories to share...I just moved back home, unfortunately, from Thailand. Lived there half a year teaching english and working at a beach resort. Before that was an intense adventure through most of Southeast Asia...missed out on Laos due to my love and passion of Thailand. Prior to the exploration into "Asian" culture, if you can even categorize all the cultures into one, I spent my last semester of university in Hong Kong. Been to Germany this past October, hence Oktoberfest. What part of Germany does your bro live? ...most of my HK friends live in Germany. (Would love to go back) Did some environmental conservation in Australia, and hopped to Fiji for a quickie. Other than that, you know the states as well as I do apparantly. Would love to hear about your Central/South American excursions. I must see atleast some of the Mayan Ruins before I die. Looking to explore Europe next year say Julyish. If that fails, I'm heading to China. Look forward to hearing more about the adventures! Cheers :o)

Hola Lydia! So how are you liking Pasadena thus far? I enjoy old town Pasadena the most! I'm envious of your travels! I haven't traveled as much as you...yet! I did a semester abroad in Florence and was able to make it to Paris which is something I've dreamed of since I well as lon as I've had the ability to dream! Made it to Belgium and Austria as well, done Mexico with the family, spent my summer in Canada and was in New York a month ago or so! Right now I'm preparing to go to Guatemala in less than 2 weeks and waaaaay excited! Then after that if money remains in my account back to Italy! =] And don't hesitate to hit me up to grab a cup of joe (or tea) and we can relive stories of travel and dream of our next endeavors!

Hey! Your adventures already sound so cool and it's way more than I've ever done! I've been to Germany and just finished a 10 day trip to Ireland this summer. Other than that, I've been up and down the US East Coast for volleyball, softball and family. I just started at Bates College and my top priority (besides academics) is to go everywhere I possibly can. Why sit still when there is so much out there?

Heya. Sounds like you've been just about everywhere...lucky. I'm so envious for NZ at Christmas. What do you want to do there? I have a few friends who just moved to NZ and say it's paradise. If I weren't getting ready to graduate, I'd be there in a heart beat... but maybe I could squeeze it in for spring break... wouldn't that be nice?? How do like Cali? I hear it's nice but sounds way too hot. Valerie

Hi Lydia, nice to meet you, your travels sound fabulous! I was just in Mexico for the first time this past summer- I visited a friend who was studying abroad in Cuernavaca, and then we travelled to Ixtapa (which I thought was near Puerto Vallarta- never trust Google Earth!) and Mexico City. Two summers ago I studied abroad for a few weeks in Rovinj, Croatia, and I spent a week before and after the class to travel on my own, so I saw some of South Central Europe as well. I can't lie to you, when I travel with friends, there are always crazy adventure stories. For example, in Mexico we went parasailing, went down a dangerous street in Mexico City where evidently we could have died, our bus to la Cuidad broke down and we couldn't understand what anyone was saying, and then the bus pulled away without us. It was a good time. This summer I've got some traveling coming up- I'm going to Virginia because my mom's going, and since I haven't been to Virginia I told her I was coming along. And then I'm going to Hawaii in August with my entire extended family- usually we do an annual 4 day camping trip to somewhere in Wisconsin, but this year might be my uncle's last, so he suggested we go to Hawaii. I'd love to hear more about where you've been- I've never been to the Caribbean and I'd like to go someday. ~Julia

Hi Lydia-you seem like a travel lover as well. Sailing from Mexico to Tahiti-amazing. I would love to hear more about that. I've spent the most time (apart from New Zealand) in Western Europe. Uk (12xs) France (3xs) Holland (3x's) Germany (2xs) Switzerland (2xs) Austria, Spain, Italy, Ireland (2xs), Fiji, Bali, Singapore, Egypt, Nicaragua, Peru, Fiji, Mexico...but there are many places I need to see. My ideal trip would be Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Maybe next year. You should go to New Zealand. Everything about it is amazing-people, mountains, water-you name it has it. If you have any questions about where to go let me know. I've done it all....from hiking/skydiving/bungee to just hanging out on the beach. Cheers, Alex :)

Wow you have been all over! What is your age? Who did you do that cruise to Tahiti through? That sounds really awesome. Last January I went to Australia to live for 4 months. I had a stopover in New Zealand and really wish I could have stayed, its beautiful there. (Air New Zealand is THE best airline ever). I went to Puerto Rico in June, moved to California for 5 months, now I'm here in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm going all over Europe next summer. One of the things I am doing is a trip through EF College Break - www.efcollegebreak.com. I'm a campus manager for them so I can get you a discount if you are interested! So what are you doing in New York?
