My friends and I made a point to document our travels with a small video cameras throughout our entire “Rome Semester”, as we call it at the University of Dallas. What we didn’t know was how close we would grow throughout our time abroad and how much we would learn from the places we were in, from the education we received, and from each other. We had the most amazing time exploring a new realm of freedom and experience.
Then we left Europe.
Upon returning home, we felt disconnected, odd, out-of-place, and a strange sense of nostalgia for what had just passed. Without thinking about it, we would “pine for what [was] not”. From this state came the idea to use what we documented to express ourselves, and that became this 10-minute feature, a mocumentary-type documentary (barely staged) that captures the sickness plaguing our semester abroad class (Fall Romers ’06).
It is best described as “Rome Sick”.
This was a preliminary draft of the video—a little rough, but still lovable.
